The Russian Federation is one of the few countries actively repatriating IS children. This September, 5-year-old Sofia Dashieva was repatriated from Syria to her home in Dagestan, Russia. Now she lives in the town of Kizilyurt with her grandmother, Reigenat Dashieva, where she has begun attending kindergarten. Giggling and whooping with laughter in her living room at home, surrounded by her aunts, it’s hard to imagine that just a few months previously she had been living in Damascus’ Adra prison with her mother and two siblings.
