Russia is one of the only countries with an active and longstanding programme to repatriate children and orphans of IS fighters from Syria and Iraq. As winter hits and living conditions worsen in camps such as Al-Hol, the window to safely repatriate these children is narrowing. AP went to Dagestan and got unique insight into how Russian families – mothers and grandmothers – are coping with the pain of separation from their loved ones.
